Myopia Management Close-Up: Juan Carlos Aragón on GMAC

February 16, 2021

The new Chair of the Global Myopia Awareness Coalition (GMAC) is Juan Carlos Aragón, president of CooperVision Specialty EyeCare. Here he discusses the mission, accomplishments, and goals of the myopia awareness organization with John Sailer, Editor-in-Chief of Review of Myopia Management. Listen to hear more about what “J.C.” and the rest of the new board members have planned for GMAC and its global myopia awareness initiatives.

GMAC was founded in early 2019 with a mission to “promote public awareness of childhood myopia as a treatable disease through direct-to-consumer channels and awareness with governments, NGOs, and other health care associations.” It is an advisory board under the World Council of Optometry.

Composed of leading ophthalmic companies and eye health associations that agree on a clear need for greater public awareness about childhood myopia, GMAC does not advocate for specific clinical approaches. Instead, it is designed to stimulate public interest and prompt parental conversations with eye care practitioners.
