Women In Optometry Launches Nutritional Video Series

August 1, 2024

Review of Myopia Management’s sister publication Women In Optometry has officially launched a new nutrition-focused video series entitled “Ocular NutraSmoothies.” The unique video series and recipe book focuses on highlighting the natural nutrients found in Ocuvite.*

In the video series, Julie Poteet, OD, MS, CNS, FOWNS, of Acworth, Georgia, whips up six individual NutraSmoothies designed to support different ocular needs — from dry eye and AMD to conditions caused by oxidative stress and excessive blue light exposure. NutraSmoothies is supported by Bausch + Lomb, maker of Ocuvite. Each video is designed to help you and your patients (through you) deliciously increase the intake of dietary nutrients, with an appropriate Ocuvite formula as needed.*

“Dr. Poteet’s style is warm and inviting. She encourages people to have fun with their smoothies and to be confident that by using fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables, they can create smoothies that are tasty and deliver a punch of micronutrients,” said Marjolijn Bijlefeld, Women In Optometry editor.

The recipe book and Dr. Poteet’s videos explain how certain carotenoids, such as lutein and zeaxanthin, are important to ocular health and support the eye’s macula. Both the videos and recipe book also share other facts that patients may not know:

  • Dark chocolate, or cocoa, contains polyphenols. These are the antioxidants that help to support cholesterol and blood sugar levels and can boost heart and vascular health.
  • Foods rich in vitamin A, such as orange and yellow vegetables and fruits, are important for maintaining healthy eyesight, skin, and immune function.
  • Blue and purple fruits and vegetables such as blueberries, blackberries, and eggplant are rich in antioxidants called anthocyanins. These antioxidants are important for maintaining healthy brain function and protecting against age-related cognitive decline.
