ARLINGTON, Wash. — OCULUS, Inc. has introduced the Myopia Software Package for its Pentacam AXL Wave device. The new software is designed to offer optometrists unparalleled accuracy, ease, and safety in their myopia management, comprehensive screening, and orthokeratology fitting with one device.
With myopia predicted to impact half of the global population by 2050,1 and pediatric keratoconus prevalence recorded at 1:334 as determined by a 2024 study,2 such diseases must be detected in their earliest manifestations to preserve vision and quality of life. The Pentacam AXL Wave is now equipped to support 1) assessing axial length growth rate, refractive error, corneal stability, and corneal health, 2) explaining their clinical significance to patients, and 3) fitting contact lenses and evaluating OrthoK treatment success.
The Myopia Software Package launch includes the following displays:
- Growth Curves: Clinicians can use this module to assess a patient’s axial length and refractive error compared to age- and ethnicity-dependent growth curves calculated from 20,000+ eyes using exclusive Brien Holden Vision Institute algorithms. The easy-to-interpret graph supports initial risk assessment and projection of potential progression, streamlining clinical evaluation, and explanations to parents and patients.
- GRAS Module: The Gullstrand Refractive Analysis System (GRAS) supports the comparison of individual optical components with the age-adjusted Gullstrand eye.
- Myopia Guide: This display includes a risk factor questionnaire and customized report to boost conversions and secure buy-in for treatment recommendations.
- Growth Control: This module enables precise analysis of individual myopia treatment efficacy with automatic calculation of annual axial length growth rate visually compared to age-adjusted normative data. Color-coded parameters support validation of treatment success or decisions to alter treatment.
Since the launch of the first Pentacam model in 2002, it has been globally recognized as the gold standard in anterior segment tomography. The Pentacam AXL Wave builds on this legacy of data precision, capturing tear film-independent scans of high-resolution Scheimpflug tomography, biometry, wavefront aberrometry, objective refraction, and retroillumination.

The Myopia Software Package launch on the Pentacam AXL Wave rounds out a configuration perfectly optimized for optometrists.
