SYDNEY, Australia — “Keep Your Eye On Myopia” is the theme of this year’s global Myopia Awareness Week, May 22-26, 2023. Sponsored by BHVI, Myopia Awareness Week was created to promote myopia management as an essential program of eye health, particularly for children. Myopia Awareness Week was first launched in 2018 in an effort to bring awareness to the myopia epidemic and the growing burden of myopia. The initiative was launched by Brien Holden Vision Institute in collaboration with the Centre for Eye Health, Optometry NSW/ACT, and the UNSW School of Optometry and Vision Science.
Eye care professionals throughout the world are invited to use the shareable content provided by the organizers of Myopia Awareness Week to encourage their audiences to create patient action, promote treatment options, and drive awareness of the myopia pandemic and the ways to slow its progression.
In addition to subscribing in order to receive Myopia Awareness Week content here, ECPs participating in the initiative can access resources from the BHVI website as well. The BHVI calculator can be used as a discussion tool with parents, and the BHVI practice management courses can be used to educate and prepare your frontline workers to discuss myopia management with patients.
The “Keep Your Eye On Myopia” theme will be broken up across three key subject areas:
Keep Your Eye on the Signs of Myopia will provide content and actions ECPs can use to learn about and engage their audiences to raise myopia awareness.
Keep Your Eye on Myopia Treatments will provide informational resources around the latest treatments and methods of myopia management to better equip ECPs to have conversations with patients. Content will be provided for ECPs to share with their audiences.
Keep Your Eye on Myopia Progression will provide content specifically focused on myopia management guidelines and myopia progression issues such as glaucoma and blindness to encourage patients to seek regular check-ups.
