SHANGHAI — CooperVision’s MiSight 1 day contact lenses are now officially available in China, making it the first product of any type that has an indication from the Chinese National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for slowing the progression of axial length.1 EssilorLuxottica is the exclusive distributor of MiSight 1 day in China’s mainland.
Representatives from both companies were joined by several domestic and international ophthalmology and optometry luminaries during a virtual “grand launch” conference earlier this month. They included Dr. Juan Carlos Aragón, President of CooperVision Specialty EyeCare; Mr. Kok Leong Lim, President of the EssilorLuxottica Greater China Vision Care Division; Professor Xingtao Zhou, Dean of the Eye and ENT Hospital of Fudan University; and Professor Maria Liu from Berkeley Optometry.
More than 2,800 eye care professionals attended the livestreamed event, with lecture topics spanning the science behind MiSight 1 day, its seven-year clinical study design and robust data, the role of measuring axial length, and healthy wear in children. Certification for a group of MiSight 1 day fitters followed.

Backed by an international, seven-year clinical study, we are proud to launch this groundbreaking myopia control treatment for children and adolescents in China. In cooperation with EssilorLuxottica, China joins the family of more than 30 markets in which MiSight 1 day is being prescribed,” said Dr. Aragón.
During his remarks, Professor Zhou emphasized that the overall prevalence of myopia among Chinese children and adolescents in 2018, 2019, and 2020 was 53.6%, 50.2%, and 52.7%, respectively. In 2020, the myopia rate for students in primary school, middle school, and high school reached 35.6%, 71.1%, and 80.5%.2

Our cooperation with CooperVision to launch MiSight 1 day in China’s mainland again demonstrates our efforts and reaches a new milestone in this field,” said Mr. Lim.
MiSight 1 day will be available in all major cities in China. Fitting and evaluation of the product in China should be conducted in medical institutions by ophthalmologists with an intermediate title or above, and patients should be monitored regularly when wearing MiSight 1 day.
1 Chinese NMPA Indications for Use: MiSight is indicated for the correction of myopia for patients with non-diseased phakic eyes, who at the initiation of treatment are 8-12 years of age and have a refraction of -0.75D to -4.00D with ≤ 0.75D of astigmatism. It has the dual focal design with alternative multiple rings, which allows part of the light passing through the optical zone to focus in front of the retina, forming myopic defocus with the expectation to slow the change of axial length of the patients. Fitting and evaluation of the product should be in medical institutions by ophthalmologists with an intermediate title or above and with regular monitoring. It must be used in strict accordance with the IFU requirements.

U.S. Indications for Use: MiSight 1 day (omafilcon A) soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses for daily wear are indicated for the correction of myopic ametropia and for slowing the progression of myopia in children with non-diseased eyes, who at the initiation of treatment are 8-12 years of age and have a refraction of -0.75D to -4.00D (spherical equivalent) with ≤ 0.75D of astigmatism. The lens is to be discarded after each removal.
