ST. LOUIS — The Global Myopia Awareness Coalition (GMAC) has shared the announcement of its latest member, China’s National Clinical Research Center (NCRC) for Ocular Diseases. This partnership marks a significant step forward in strengthening global efforts to manage childhood myopia and expanding GMAC’s international network.

NCRC for Ocular Diseases, was established in 2019, supported by the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, China. It has become one of the world’s leading institutes for ophthalmology and optometry training, education, research, and clinical care. The hospital has played an instrumental role in designing and implementing a unique medical education program to train both medical doctors and optometrists, resulting in the training of more than one-eighth of all eye doctors in China.

We are excited to welcome NCRC for Ocular Diseases into GMAC’s growing global network,” said Olga Prenat, Chair of GMAC. “Their dedication to evidence-based research and myopia education is invaluable in supporting GMAC’s mission to raise awareness and drive early intervention for children’s vision health.”

“We are extremely delighted to be a member of GMAC and are committed to making our utmost effort to contribute to the prevention and control of myopia among children worldwide,” said Jun Jiang, from NCRC for Ocular Diseases.

NCRC for Ocular Diseases’ ongoing efforts in myopia management and mission to improve eye health align closely with GMAC’s commitment to proactive global action on childhood myopia. GMAC collaborates with professional associations to support eye care practitioners in educating families about myopia, its impact on vision, the importance of early and regular eye exams, and encouraging conversations between parents and eye care professionals about myopia management.
