The latest Pentacam device combines Scheimpflug imaging with high-resolution OCT
April 9, 2026
OCULUS‘ Pentacam Cornea OCT has officially received clearnace from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The device combines Scheimpflug technology with the world’s first pericentric OCT scanning system. In a matter of just one second, cornea specialists are provided with Scheimpflug-based data and ultra high-resolution OCT images of the cornea. Both measurements are taken simultaneously at the very same locations, enabling immediate and detailed visualization of anomalies.
“We are excited to introduce this advanced imaging technology to the U.S. market, supporting cataract and refractive specialists with anterior segment imaging and corneal epithelium assessment.” said Michael Wolber, CEO of OCULUS, Inc.
The combination of Cornea OCT and Scheimpflug imaging allows for comprehensive corneal assessment. Professor Renato Ambrósio Jr, an internationally recognized corneal expert, emphasizes the impact of this technology: “The Pentacam Cornea OCT illuminates the cornea with such clarity, it’s like turning on a light in a dark room.”
The new device is compatible with all existing Pentacam examination data, regardless of the model and software version. This compatibility simplifies follow-up examinations and progression analysis.
